B-Tree Deletion Algorithm
Efficient Data Storage & Retrieval B-Trees organize data for fast searching, insertion, and deletion. See how keys are removed while keeping the tree balanced.
B-Tree Deletion
B-tree deletion removes a key from the tree while preserving its balanced structure. The process ensures that all nodes (except the root) maintain the required minimum number of keys.Merging, borrowing, and rebalancing during B-tree key deletion:
- Locate and remove the key from a leaf or internal node.
- If the key is in an internal node, replace it with its in-order predecessor or successor.
- If a node has fewer keys than required after deletion, borrow a key from a sibling or merge nodes.
- Rebalance the tree by adjusting parent keys as needed.
- Continue this process up the tree to maintain B-tree properties.
